Films which Made History on box office even after lot of controversies!

My Name Is Khan, PK, Ramleela: The films which Made Fire on box-office even after lot of controversies!!!

Controversies are not a new thing in Film industry, especially in Bollywood. We have seen in recent times that Bollywood films and controversies go hand-in-hand and Padmavati is the latest example of that. The controversies helped some films, specially for their promotion...but in some cases they made opposite result. Sometime self-vigilante groups and sometimes political parties target the film for hurting the sentiments of the particular group. No film wants to get surrounded by controversy during its release, but on the flip side, occasionally we noticed that some films get great mileage at the box office and perform much better than expected.

These are the  films which created history at the box office despite controversies:

1) PK

Mr. perfectionist Aamir Khan’s blockbuster movie PK was surrounded by controversy over its release for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindu and Muslim group. The film didn’t only become the highest of year 2014, but also inaugurated the Rs 300 crore club and collected Rs 340.80 crore. While The Vishwa Hindu Parishad demanded a ban on the film for making fun their religion, Members of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board demanded censor board to remove the objectionable scenes in the film. PK released during Christmas weekend, which is always considered lucky for Aamir Khan.

2) Goliyon Ki Rasleela… Ram-Leela

Ram-Leela.....Goliyon Ki Rasleela…The Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s  Ram-Leela was surrounded by controversy due to its objectionable content and title. Since the title was objected by some Hindu groups, the producers changed first from Ramleela to Ram-Leela, and then to Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram-Leela. In fact, the Rajput Samaj of Ahmedabad had planned to file the petition against the movie in Gujarat High court for misinterpreting the history of Rajput and Rabari communities.  The controversy created great curiosity among the movie buffs, which was reflected on the box office. After opening with whopping numbers of Rs 16 crore, the film made the business of Rs 116.33 crore.

3)Udta Punjab

Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Diljit Dosanjh and Kareena Kapoor Khan starrer Udta Punjab was landed in controversy for showing Punjab in the bad light. On the top of that, the CBFC had ordered 94 cuts to the producers, which add more spark in the dispute. The producers finally moved to court and released the film with only two cuts. Unfortunately, the film was leaked online few days before its release. Though the film opened well with Rs 10.05 crore on its opening day and went on to earn Rs 60.33 crore.

4) OMG – Oh My God!

The screening of OMG - Oh My GOD was even brought to a halt in Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Nawanshahr, Hoshiarpur and other places in Punjab. The Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal social satire film received protest against many religious groups for making derogatory references to Hindu gods. Despite all these hurdles, the film collected Rs 81.46 crore and became sleeper hit of the year.

5)Bajirao Mastani

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s  historical drama Bajirao Mastani also faced criticism for altering the historical facts. The protest was held in Pune, where the descendants of Peshwa and Chhatrasal dynasty had organized a protest at Shaniwar Wada. Despite all these controversies and clashing with Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale, the film raked in Rs 12.80 crore and lifetime business of over Rs 184 crore at the box office.

6) Ae Dil Hai Mushkil

Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil faced severe criticism from political groups for casting Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in his romantic drama. In the wake of Uri attacks, after which IMPPA banned Pakistani artists for working in the country. The film which released during the festive season of Diwali opened with Rs 13.30 crore and went on to earn Rs 112.48 crore at the box office.

7) My Name Is Khan

The political party also said that Sharuk Khanshould apologize for his remarks or they will halt the screening. Though the film received a great response and made Rs 72.75 croreat the Box office.
